Facilities and Support
Member institutions have agreed to stablish research infrastructure support mechanisms that leverage the core facilities and research support structures among members of the MWRC.
IDeA Clinical and Translational Research - Infrastructure Network (CTR-IN)
We have received notice from NIGMS for the 5-year renewal of the MW CTR-IN Grant, effective August 8, 2018 to June 30, 2023
Our CTR-IN is supported under a part of the National Institutes of Health IDeA program focused on the development of clinical and translational research capacity in IDeA states. The Mounatin West CTR-IN will accomplish this by providing a range of services that will help investigators with faculty appointments at partner institutions develop the skills and experience to conduct clinical or translational research. CTR-IN Cores will provide those services (see list below).
The CTR program, which is supported through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), encourages partnerships between institutions with limited expertise and infrastructure for clinical and translational research and established clinical and translational centers, including institutions with Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSAs) and Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMIs). We are fortunate to have both a CTSA and an RCMI partner graciously lending their expertise.
The Mountain West CTR-IN is hosted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and represents a partnership among the following 13 universities across our 7 states:

CTR-IN Annual Meeting
The CTR-IN will hold an Annual Meeting in the late spring of each year that will rotate between the partner institutions. Each year's program will be built around a theme drawn from the health issues of the region, with both regional and national experts participating. Time will be devoted to presentation of work by investigators supported by Pilot Grants, Visiting Scholarships and Mini-Sabbaticals. There will also be plenty of opportunity to meet and explore potential collaborations.
Mountain West CTR-IN Programs’ 6th Annual Meeting: June 10th – 11th, 2019 at UNLV Student Union in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s theme: Advancing Health Disparities Research in the Mountain West Region.
CTR-IN Pilot Grant Program
The CTR-IN is offering Pilot Grant awards of up to $60,000 for one year to develop new clinical or translational research programs at MWRC institutions. This year, each participating institution will nominate four applications by 28 January 2015.

CTR-IN Mini-Sabbatical and Visiting Scholar Programs
Calls for proposals will be forthcoming for the following opportunities:
Mini-Sabbatical support of up to $75,000 for mid-career and senior investigators to spend time in residence at another institution in order to obtain experience to move into translational or clinical research.
Visiting Scholar support of up to $40,000 for early career investigators to spend time in residence at another institution in order to gain experience in clinical or translational research and obtain skills to help them further their careers in one or both of these categories of research.
In 2013, MWRC institutions were awarded a large grant from NIH's IDeA program to build a Clinical and Translational Research - Infrastructure Network (CTR-IN). The CTR-IN enhances many MWRC initiatives and provides new resources to assist investigators in developing skills and accessing services needed to pursue clinical and translational research projects. The CTR-IN award was renewed in 2018.
